Woman Protested Last Year Arrested Today for Illegal Assembly

一女子涉在中聯辦示威期間非法集結被捕

After arresting seven men who participated in a protest outside China Liaison Office in Hong Kong on 1st April 2012, the Hong Kong Police arrested Ms Yau Ka-yu, 21 year-old, and charged her for illegal assembly. According to other media source, Yau left a status update on her Facebook account saying that she was arrested for the above mentioned protest but not the Occupy Central movement at HSBC in 2011. She’s currently at the Western Police Headquarter waiting for her lawyer’s arrival.

The police said that they have contacted Yau repeatedly to assist their investigation, but Yau rejected their requests. Yau was arrested today at the Lo Wu boarder. The police also emphasised that they respect the freedoms of expression, speech and assembly, that abide by the law. The police also said that all their actions are based on law and have no political consideration, they have also sought legal advise before the arrest.
