<The PRC government views failure of launching national education a “political failure” in HK, says the convenor>
Mr. Eden LAM Woon-kwong, the current convenor of the Hong Kong executive council, has mentioned that the PRC government views the failure of launching the national education in Hong Kong is a kind of “political failure” as they view the act as a political obligation of the regional government towards the central authority of the state. “They think that Hong Kong is like a spoiled, lost child.” as quoted by Mr. Lam.
Mr. Lam is giving speech in English in the civil rights education forum held by the General Education Centre of the Polytechnic University of Hong Kong when mentioning above. He first says that China once enjoys the freedom of thought in the ancient Spring and autumn period, yet it is viewed as servicing the government for political purposes, and this is the main reason why the national education fails to launch in Hong Kong.
Lam: Hong Kong’s core values are ever-changing
“In the eyes of HK government and general public this is only a controversal policy that fails to launch, yet the PRC government takes that more seriously,” he mentioned, “they think that this is again a failure for them leading the ‘lost spoiled child’.”
Lam also stress on the importance of Hong Kong preserving her own values in order to be a unique city in China instead of another city in China.
Yet he also mentioned that the values of Hong Kong has been changing over years. He quoted that in the early times of British rule people tend to tolerate the situation of British dominence on politics and corruption, but now HK is oppose corruption and also stress on diligence on work, which named as “lion rock spirit”, and HK people will demonstrate when they disagrees with the government policies.
He also stated that there will be many challanges towards HK teenagers, and they should be prepared on that.
